THE BEGINNING

We’ve traveled as a family since the very beginning. One aspect of following this page is seeing our family grow.

Here we are after driving from Santa Monica to Seattle… on the Space Needle tram, and playing near the Space Needle.

This page has many layers.  Here you can observe as the children grow, the parents grow.  Here you can review the course of more than a decade, in just a few minutes.  Here you can travel the world.

For a few years at the beginning we lived in Santa Monica, California.  The Hollywood Bowl was always fun, for any variety of show.  On certain nights you could pack a picnic.  Depending on the show we could sit in the back for extra elbow room and still enjoy the music, say the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

When we were ready as a family, we started traveling with The Boy.

Our first big travel was to visit friends in Colorado.  We rode the Pike’s Peak cog railway to the tallest peak in the continental United States.  Looking back after more than 10 years, we had no clue what adventures awaited us.

At the summit of Pike’s Peak (14,110 ft.) I was a bit out of sorts.  It was an alien landscape, well above the range where trees could survive in any sort, and above the range of almost all varieties of life.  It seemed a place where humans are least welcomed.  Oh sure, the bottom of the ocean is even less accessible.  This place was relatively attainable and still quite the thrill. It’s place where you felt like you could almost touch the sky.
